What are Firearm Offences?
Within NSW there are a range of Firearms offences, and they are predominantly found in the Firearms Act 1996 and the Crimes Act 1900.
The most common charge faced by clients is the possession or use of a firearm without a licence or permit and police will usually charge a person with this offence under Section 7 or 7A of the Firearms Act 1996.
The maximum penalty for an offence under Section 7 of the Firearms Act 1996 is 14 years imprisonment, while the maximum penalty for an offence under Section 7A of the Firearms Act 1996 is 5 years imprisonment.
